An advisor to Salvador councilor Marcelo Maia (PNM) was arrested this Tuesday (17), in the capital of Bahia.
She is suspected of being part of a criminal organization being investigated for weapons trafficking, drugs and money laundering.
Another seven people identified as leaders of this group were also detained as part of the 5th phase of Operation Noise.
According to the Bahia Public Security Secretariat (SSP-BA), all of the prisoners are linked to a faction that commits various crimes, including homicides, ordering attacks on other rival groups. Their names were not disclosed.
The advisor is a former partner of a suspect, who was also arrested in the operation, and is identified as the leader of drug trafficking in the town of Manguinhos, in the Engenho Velho de Brotas neighborhood.
The Salvador City Council said, in a note, that despite having had the councilor’s office inspected, he was not the subject of any warrant and that he also guaranteed access so that the police could carry out the work. “The Board of Directors of the House informs that it guaranteed access to all Legislative branches and collaborated so that the work of the police could be carried out without complications”.
Councilor Marcelo Lima, also in a statement, said that “there is no type of irregularity related to the activities” of the parliamentarian, which “highlights his integrity and serious commitment to his parliamentary activities, also making himself available to collaborate with investigations and with any other necessary clarifications”.
