The Civil Police are investigating the murder of Iraquara councilor, Samuel Oliveira Satelis Alves, aged 38, known as Samuel de Farofa. He was shot dead last Wednesday night (25), in the center of the municipality, in Chapada Diamantina. According to the police, the crime occurred near km 26 of the BA-122 highway, in the Jerusalem neighborhood, the central area of the city.
According to witnesses, two men on a motorcycle approached the councilor and fired several shots at the politician. Samuel succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene.
In a statement, the Military Police reported that the 29th Independent Military Police Company (CIPM) was called and isolated the area until the arrival of the Technical Police Department (DPT), which carried out the forensic examination and removal of the body.
The 1st Territorial Police Station of Seabra, responsible for the investigations, highlighted, also in a note, that it has already begun steps to identify the perpetrators of the crime and understand the possible motivations. According to the police, video surveillance cameras in the region could be useful in helping to clarify the case.
Samuel de Farofa, who was affiliated with the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB), received 202 votes in the last municipal elections, but failed to be re-elected. The party mourned the death of its member, highlighting his political and social trajectory over more than a decade of activism.

“It is with deep regret that PCdoB Bahia announces the death of comrade Samuel Oliveira Satelis Alves, affectionately known as Samuel de Farofa, councilor of the municipality of Iraquara, in the Chapada Diamantina region, which occurred on the night of December 25th, at the age of 38.
Samuel, young and committed to popular causes, had recently completed his first term as councilor. With around a decade of activism in the PCdoB, he earned the respect and affection of the community for his humble, simple and servile attitude, always willing to help those who needed it most.
Son of former councilor Gilmar Neri, known as Farofa, who honored the city with three terms, Samuel continued the legacy of dedication to the people of Iraquara. His main focus was health, an area for which he always showed immense concern, constantly seeking improvements to meet the demands of the population.
His early departure leaves an immeasurable gap in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him and working alongside him.
In this moment of pain, we express our solidarity and feelings to the family, friends and the entire Iraquara community. May Samuel’s example of dedication and humanity inspire us all in building a more just and supportive society.”
