The countdown for the 14th Ordinary Congress of New Democracy has begun. On Friday afternoon, the work of the λά blue appointment, in a period of multifaceted international, but also domestic challenges, raises the curtain, with the Prime Minister preparing for a speech that will be addressed, mainly, to the new generation, to our vulnerable fellow citizens. and the middle class, at a time when the slogan “Next to every citizen” comes as a choice of the leading group on Piraeus Street, which gives the stigma of the intentions of the government and the party to have the citizen at the center of their policy, its strengthening and support for… suffocating data of accuracy and price increases.
At the same time, however, it gives the stigma of continuous enlargement, as the country steadily enters the twelve-month or shorter pre-election period.
From the podium of the 14th Congress of New Democracy, Mr. Mitsotakis is expected to strengthen the momentum of the “blue” social agenda, in addition to the messages for the government work of the previous three years, but also the political dilemmas, in view of the next elections, whenever if these take place.
And these dilemmas are summed up in the phrase “progress or maintenance”. The work of the three-day “blue” conference will move, mainly, in two directions:
-On the one hand, both the Prime Minister and the government and party officials who will take the floor, will proceed to an account of the reforms and policies that have been promoted during the last years. “We will talk about the middle class. The reduction of ENFIA. The reduction of taxes and contributions. The support received by households and businesses in the pandemic and energy crises. We will develop what we have done for the workers. With the new jobs, the “Two increases in the minimum wage in 2022, the change of legislation in favor of workers. We will talk about equality policies. The reduction of unemployment. For the issues that concern the citizens and demand answers”, comment government officials.
-On the other hand, during the Conference, the context of the next day will be put on the table.
“Our sign will be social and progressive. And what we will emphasize is that New Democracy is the truly social and progressive faction.”
“It will not be a conference of announcements, but a political conference with a social and progressive character”, note factors, at the moment when two more elements are indicative of the climate of renewal.
The first is related to the fact that 1/3 of the participants will be citizens under 35 years old. The second is the strong representation of the younger generation and women in the Political Committee.
The thematic units
The thematic units of the Conference will move in six axes:
-The strengthening of the international image of Greece
-Youth policies (reforms at all levels of education, labor and insurance reform for the younger generation, government housing plan for young people).
-Security for everyone.
Everyday life: State friendly to the citizens and Fair
Development.
-Environmental protection and tackling the energy crisis.
Another axis will be the evolution of the New Democracy
The speech of the general director of New Democracy, Giannis Bratakou, and the general secretary of the Parliamentary Group, Giannis Bouga, will take place on Saturday and on the second day of the conference.
Representatives of European Union countries, representatives of the European People’s Party and the European Parliament, as well as representatives of other parties in the Greek Parliament will deliver a speech during the Conference.
On Sunday, speeches will be made by the former Commissioner for Immigration, Home Affairs and Citizenship, Dimitris Avramopoulos, the Vice President of the European Commission, Margaritis Schoinas, the former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, the Secretary of the Political Committee, Pavlos Marinakis Vangelis Meimarakis.
Before the end of the Conference, the second speech of Mr. Mitsotakis will take place, while, at the same time, the voting for the election of the new members of the Political Committee will be in progress.
