Countdown for the TIF – The K. Mitsotakis meetings in Thessaloniki have ended

In the afternoon, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had successive meetings at the Ministry of Macedonia – Thrace in Thessaloniki with the productive and scientific bodies of Thessaloniki and more broadly of northern Greece, in view of the 86th TIF.

During the successive meetings, among other things, the problems faced by the members of the agencies and the progress of the projects launched in the city were examined, for which a detailed presentation was made.

After the meetings the Prime Minister made the following statement:

“Thank you very much, we had another very productive discussion in view of the regular preparation we do every year before our annual presence at the International Exhibition of Thessaloniki, very detailed discussions with the commercial, economic, social and educational institutions of the city. And of course we had and the opportunity to analyze in detail the evolution of the government plan specifically for the Regional Unit of Thessaloniki. It is a set of multiple, different, parallel initiatives, which are gradually changing and upgrading for the better the city and the lives of its residents.

I will not present in detail the full scope of the interventions, because we are discussing more than 30 important projects which will ultimately make up the Thessaloniki of 2030. This form that I am showing you will be presented in detail by the competent bodies at the beginning of next week and the relevant information will be available for everyone on the website of the Ministry of Macedonia – Thrace.

By way of example, we are talking about interventions in four main policy axes: interventions in infrastructure, health and welfare, entrepreneurship and innovation, but also renovations and interventions that significantly upgrade Thessaloniki culturally, in sports and in terms of access to green spaces and recreation.

I would need, my dear Minister, at least an hour to go through all the projects in detail. I will not do it. I will only refer to projects such as the Metro, which I think all the people of Thessaloniki must now be absolutely convinced that this project will be completed and become a reality. You know the great difficulties we had to overcome. Thessaloniki will have both a modern Metro and an ancient one at the Venizelos station, just as we had promised.

I will refer to the very important project of the flyover, which was an exclusively government initiative in terms of its maturity and in terms of the selection of the contractor, and of course a series of interventions in the port of Thessaloniki but also many other road projects in the wider area of Thessaloniki.

In terms of health and welfare, our decision for the new oncology hospital has come to fruition. We know the area, next to the two important hospitals of Thessaloniki, and we mature the relevant studies very quickly.

In matters concerning entrepreneurship and innovation, let me focus in particular on the transformation of the informal industrial concentration in Kalochori, but also on the very high speed with which the Thess INTEC project is progressing.

And finally, regarding the issues of renovations and interventions in culture and sports, two important stadiums in Thessaloniki: the completion of the Presidential Decree for the PAOK stadium and the very fast maturation of the double renovation by moving the Aris stadium to a plot of OAED and a significant redevelopment in the area of the old Charilaou.

All this, my Minister, will be presented in detail and will certify the government’s determination to implement a project plan, the likes of which Thessaloniki has never known in the past, so that in 2030 Thessaloniki will truly be the city its residents deserve, to its visitors, to its students, to the investors who will come to invest in this beautiful city.

Thank you very much”.
