Today, Thursday (2/2), the Plenary Session of the European Parliament (EP) in Brussels is expected to vote on the lifting the immunity of MEPs Mark Tarabella and Andreas Coccolinoat the request of the Belgian judiciary on the corruption scandal from Qatar and Morocco.

As the president of the House Roberta Metsola pointed out, the vote in the Plenary will be held at noon. MEPs are expected to confirm the decision of the EP’s legal affairs committee which unanimously voted in favor of waiver of immunity of the Belgian Tarabella and the Italian Coccolino, former members of the Group of European Socialists.

According to Belgian reports, the alleged “mastermind” of the case, former Italian MEP Pier Antonio Panzeri, testified to investigators that he had bribed MEP Marc Tarabella with a total of 120,000 euros.

Both MEPs, Tarabella and Cotsolino, as reported by the Athens News Agency, state that they have no involvement in a corruption case.
