Countdown to Trump’s new court appearance – ‘Democrats are subverting justice’

In a few hours he is expected to appear Donald Trump before justice in court to Washington to face charges of “conspiracy against the US state”, obstruction of official process and violation of electoral rights.

So, to his post on his website, Truth Social, Trump accused the Democratic president and his 2020 opponent Joe Biden of being behind this new prosecution against him. “The Democrats don’t want to campaign with me running against themotherwise they would not have resorted to this unprecedented instrumentalization of justice,” he wrote.

Trump has been summoned to appear today at 4:00 p.m. (Washington time, 11:00 p.m. Greek time) before a federal court following the prosecution brought against him by special prosecutor Jack Smith who mainly accuses him of undermining the foundations of American democracy by trying to alter the ratification process of election results.

The court where he will be formally charged is very close to the Capitol, the seat of Congress, where hundreds of his supporters stormed on January 6, 2021, trying to prevent the ratification of Biden’s victory.

More than 24 hours before the hearing is due to start, satellite TV cameras and vans as well as local and international media have taken up positions outside the court, becoming a “sight” for passers-by and tourists alike. At dawn today, about a hundred journalists were waiting in line to enter the court, around which security fences have been installed. Similar measures have been taken around the congressional buildings.
