Counterorder: no return to the Pirates of the Caribbean for Johnny Depp

Fans of Johnny Depp have experienced a few hours of total euphoria at the news that the actor would be in talks to return in the role of Captain Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean with a $ 300 million deal with Walt Disney. The hope lasted too short as its spokesperson firmly denied the rumors in a statement a NBC News: “The news is made up.”

The gossip was spread from Poptopic who got the tip from an anonymous source. Leveraging on the very high expectations for a return to the cinema of the star, the rumor went around the world telling of a possible involvement not only in the sixth film of the saga but also in a spin-off series for Disney +. Nothing to do (at least for now): there is no negotiation in progress. In fact, Depp had mentioned it first, during the (won) libel trial against ex-wife Amber Heard.

On that occasion the actor had commented that he was disappointed with the dismissal in the franchise that had seen him protagonist for 15 years and that I have no intention of going back to work on it. In fact, in 2018, Mickey’s empire turned its back on him when the article about Washington Post signed by the ex-wife who defined him (even without mentioning his name) as a beater of wives.

Those words cost – according to an estimate by Depp’s defense – at least 22 million in lost revenue and lost work to the actor. Today, as he recalled on Instagram, he can resume his life and career, finally acquitted of all charges because the court proved him right and agreed that Heard’s version was untrue.

In the meantime, however, mud has been thrown on the actor for yearsas Heard proclaims himself on the verge of bankruptcy and probably won’t pay a cent to compensate the ex for damage done to his image, including the dismissal from Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secretsthird prequel to the Harry Potter saga. In the film he was replaced by Mads Mikkelsen. Now, however, he is in Paris for the first project after the trial.

Despite the defeat in court, Amber Heard continues to attack the ex on TV and at the same time declare that she loves him. The contradictory statements – according to the court ruling – could bring her back to court, but by now she has nothing more to lose, indeed she hopes to create a memoir on the whole affair to replenish her finances.

Unlike the ex, however, she was not fired by Warner Bros. and will appear – albeit briefly – in the blockbuster DC Comics. Aquaman 2 alongside Jason Momoa. Are there still two weights and two measures in Hollywood? Judging from all this, unfortunately yes.
