Countries are willing to provide troops to Ukraine, says UK

A “significant number” of countries is willing to provide peacekeeping troops in Ukraine in the case of a peace agreement with Russia, a spokesman for UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer reported on Monday (17).

England and France lead their efforts to offer a peace plan to Ukraine after US President Donald Trump started conversations +to press for a peace agreement with Russia.

More than 30 countries must be involved in the so-called “arranged coalition” to support Ukraine, the Starmer spokesman spoke to reporters.

“Contribution capabilities vary, but this will be a significant force, with a significant number of countries providing troops.”

Russia has repeatedly rejected the idea of soldiers from countries belonging to the NATO Military Alliance parked in Ukraine.

When asked if the peacekeeping troops would be allowed to retaliate if they were targets, the spokesman said that military planning meetings were being held to analyze the details.

Starmer organized a virtual meeting on Saturday (15) with leaders from Europe and other countries to obtain support for the coalition. All this before military planners meet in the United Kingdom on Thursday (20) to discuss how a truce could be guaranteed.

Asked about the Russian comments that Moscow would not accept European peace forces in Ukraine, Stmerer spokesman said: “It is worth remembering that Russia did not ask Ukraine when he sent North Korean troops to the front line last year.”

United Kingdom and France continue to press the United States for security guarantees to prevent future Russian attacks.
