Countries mobilize against the Ômicron variant; Farc off terrorist list

Germany this week decreed a lockdown for unvaccinated people. The decision was a reaction to the increase in the number of Covid-19 cases, which has multiplied in Europe, still associated with the Delta variant of the coronavirus. But the new Ômicron variant is also spreading across the continent and the world.

In the United States, President Joe Biden announced new measures to address a possible increase in Covid-19 in winter and the new variant. Inflationary pressures have increased in both the United States and Europe, and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) says the fourth wave of the disease and the emergence of Ômicron will cause price increases and economic slowdown around the world.

In this episode of CNN Mundo, Lourival Sant’Anna takes stock of the reflexes of the discovery of the new coronavirus strain and presents expert analysis of concerns about the Ômicron variant.

In a tour of the week’s most important international news, the podcast also highlights the US State Department’s announcement of the removal of the former FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) guerrilla movement, now a political party, from the list of organizations considered terrorists by the United States. Straight from Bogotá, Colombian journalist Sebastián Salamanca recounts the impact of the US decision.
