Coup at USP: medical student is denounced for embezzlement

The São Paulo Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP-SP) filed a complaint against USP student Alicia Muller, identified as responsible for embezzling almost R$ 1 million from the money collected for the completion of the graduation of her class from the medical course.

Prosecutor Fabiano Pavan Severino denounces the student for eight frauds and one attempt. He understands that Alicia “obtained illicit advantages eight times, totaling BRL 927,765, to the detriment of others”. Furthermore, the MP-SP asks her to repair all the damage done.

At the time the scam was discovered, the student was chairman of the graduation committee at the USP Faculty of Medicine and carried out several transfers throughout 2022 without the knowledge of her colleagues.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office had previously expressed its opposition to the student’s arrest, as it understood that the conduct attributed to Alicia was fraud and not embezzlement. In these cases, the law requires a criminal representation to file a complaint against the author of the facts.

The request for preventive detention was made in the police investigation completed by the 16th police district of São Paulo, on January 31 of this year.

Alicia’s defense said it will issue an official note as soon as it has more information about the complaint.

The case continues in secrecy of Justice. The São Paulo Court of Justice was contacted, but did not respond.
