Couple suspected of stealing clothes from department store to sell is target of operation

This Monday morning (9), the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro launched “Operation Clearance”, which aims to dismantle a criminal scheme that carried out scams in a Brazilian department store. The choice of the name of the operation refers to the meaning of “stock burning”.

According to investigations, the group is led by a couple who stole items of clothing to sell them on the internet, at prices lower than those charged by the retailer.

It was also discovered that they created three profiles on social media to attract new customers.

The scheme began with thefts in store fitting rooms and, in order not to arouse suspicion, the perpetrators sought establishments to exchange legally purchased products.

Then, the group left the place with changed clothes, as well as other more valuable products hidden in bags. They even used a fake CPF.

For investigators, the loss caused by this criminal scheme would be approximately R$1 million. The group also operated in São Paulo and Minas Gerais.

When contacted, Renner, victim of those being investigated, has not yet spoken out, the space will remain open for future statements.

In total, around 10 search and seizure warrants are being carried out in the north of Rio de Janeiro and in the Lagos Region by agents from the Computer Crime Repression Police Station (DRCI).
