Court grants provisional freedom to Chilean woman who called an employee a “monkey” in Corcovado

The Benfica Custody Hearing Center granted, this Thursday (19), provisional freedom to the Chilean tourist Camila Faundez Torres, arrested red-handed for racial insult on Tuesday (17) after calling an employee of the company Trem do Corcovado de “monkey”.

In the decision, precautionary measures were also imposed to be complied with by the woman during the processing of the case.

Among the precautionary measures are:

  • commitment to attend all procedural acts, in the manner to be determined by the court where the process is being processed (whether in person or virtually);
  • obligation to inform the court of any change of address;
  • communicate to the court where the case is being processed the date on which you will leave the country, within a maximum period of 5 days (or on an earlier date, if the travel date is scheduled in less time).

According to the Judiciary of the state of Rio de Janeiro, the decision took place after the Public Ministry’s favorable opinion for the woman’s provisional release, “understanding that there is no danger in her behavior, nor signs that she is engaged in criminal practices”.
