Court maintains arrest of accused of killing 10 people from the same family in DF

Judge Taciano Vogado Rodrigues Junior maintained the arrest of the five accused of participating in the murder of ten members of a family in the Federal District, in January this year.

There is no reason to revoke the measure, according to the judge of the Court of Justice of the Federal District and Territories (TJDFT).

Gideon Batista de Menezes, Horácio Carlos Ferreira Barbosa, Carlomam dos Santos Nogueira and Carlos Henrique Alves da Silva are responsible for the crime of qualified homicide. Fabrício Silva Canhedo is accused of extortion through kidnapping followed by death.

Carlomam and Carlos Henrique’s defenses said they will still decide what to do. Horácio Carlos Ferreira Barbosa indicated that he will wait for the process to end. The other defenses did not comment at the time of publication of the report.

Chronology

Investigations into the case began on January 12 after the disappearance of hairdresser Elizamar Silva, aged 39, and her three children: Rafael and Rafaela, aged 6, and Gabriel, aged 7.

The following day, Elizamar’s car was found charred on a highway in Cristalina-GO, with four bodies. The identity of Elizamar and his children was confirmed by the Legal Medical Institute (IML) of Goiás.

Also on January 13, the following were reported missing:

  • Elizamar’s husband, Thiago Gabriel Belchior, 30 years old,
  • his father, Marcos Antonio de Oliveira,
  • his mother, Renata Belchior,
  • and his sister, Gabriela Belchior.

On Saturday (14), the family car was found charred in Unaí (MG). The bodies of Thiago’s mother and sister were inside the vehicle and were identified by the IML of Minas Gerais.

Marcos Antônio’s body was found on Wednesday, the 18th, buried and dismembered in a farm used as captivity.

On January 24, the police found the bodies of Thiago, his father’s ex-wife, Cláudia Regina Marques, and her daughter, Ana Beatriz Marques, aged 19, at the bottom of a cistern, in an abandoned property.

According to delegate Ricardo Viana, the crime was motivated by financial issues and a land dispute. “These people were killed in different ways and with extreme cruelty.”
