The Court of Pernambuco decreed, this Monday (2), the preventive arrest of military police officer Venilson Cândido da Silva, aged 50, detained in the act for shooting the motorcyclist Thiago Fernandes Bezerra, aged 23, in Camaragibe, in Recife Metropolitan Region.
The decision was taken at a custody hearing held by the Capital Flagrant Center and signed by judge José Carlos Vasconcelos Filho, of the Court of Justice of Pernambuco (TJPE). The information was confirmed by TJPE to CNN this Tuesday (3).
In addition to prison, Venilson Cândido da Silva should be expelled from the corporation after the conclusion of an administrative process, according to the Secretary of Social Defense of Pernambuco, Alessandro Carvalho.
“He was arrested and will answer for his actions. The crime was a barbaric crime, I saw the images, for no reason. He got off the back of a motorcycle taxi and, after a brief dialogue, which I don’t know what it was about, he pulled out his gun, shot and killed that worker. (…) Unfortunately, we had this case, and he will answer for his actions. He is already arrested and should be expelled from the corporation”, declared the secretary.
The crime, recorded on Sunday (1st), allegedly occurred after an argument over paying for a R$7 ride. According to investigations, the police officer refused to pay for the service, leading to a disagreement.
In the scenes captured by security cameras, it is possible to see that, during the discussion, Thiago Fernandes questions the attitude of the PM, who pulls out a .38 caliber revolver and shoots the young man. After the crime, the suspect tried to escape, entering a condominium and changing his shirt. Minutes later, he was located on a bus on Avenida Belmiro Correia, in Camaragibe, where he was attacked by members of the public before being rescued by the Military Police.
The investigation of the case is in charge of the 10th Homicide Police Station of Pernambuco. At the same time, the Military Police is conducting an administrative process that could result in the expulsion of Venilson Cândido da Silva.
