The Court of Justice granted provisional freedom to the seven protesters who were detained in a disturbance during a session at the Legislative Assembly of the State of São Paulo (Alesp), last Tuesday afternoon (21).
The group underwent a custody hearing this Wednesday morning (22) and was released shortly after 12pm.
The São Paulo Court stated that two of the students alleged violence upon arrest. Therefore, it was determined that a copy of the decision and the Legal Medical Institute (IML) be sent to the permanent magistrate judge and distributor of the 1st instance of the State's Military Justice.
The documents will also be sent to the Public Prosecutor's Office for appropriate action to be taken. A CNN tries to locate the defense of the students involved.
The court imposed three precautionary measures on the protesters, so that they could be released. They must appear in Court monthly to inform and justify their activities, as well as any update of their address and cannot be absent from the District of residence for more than eight days without prior notification to the Court.
How was the confusion?
The turmoil occurred during the analysis of the bill that creates civic-military schools in the state of São Paulo, which was authored by governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) and was approved by the plenary by 54 votes to 21.
According to the Public Security Secretariat (SSP), one person from the group tried to invade a restricted area and, after the disturbance, eight people were detained, including six adults and two teenagers.
The students were taken to the police station and interviewed. The minors were released to their guardians, and the adults were released only after a custody hearing. The Military Police analyzes the images of the action and all complaints will be investigated.
In a statement, Alesp said that “protesters tried to invade the Juscelino Kubitscheck plenary of the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo and the invaders were contained by the Military Police and presented to the Civil Police”.
