The court scheduled the trial of the seven defendants accused of kidnapping former player Marcelinho Carioca and his friend Taís Alcântara de Oliveira for August 2 of this year, in December 2023.
According to the Court, the instruction hearing to hear the victims and witnesses and to interrogate the defendants should begin at 1:30 p.m.
Marcelinho went missing between December 17th and 18th last year after leaving singer Thiaguinho's show at the Neo Química Arena, in Itaquera, east of São Paulo. The former player and a friend were kidnapped and held captive for a day in Itaquaquecetuba, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, until they were rescued by the police.
Of the seven accused of the crime, five are in prison and two are still at large. All defendants had preventive arrests ordered by the courts and must face charges, among other crimes, for extortion through kidnapping.
Jones Santos Ferreira, Wadson Fernandes Santos, Eliane de Amorim and Thauannata dos Santos were arrested in the act shortly after the crime, when the police found the captivity and released the victims. Caio Pereira da Silva was arrested in February this year when he presented himself to the Anti-Kidnapping Division (DAS), in the capital of São Paulo, accompanied by his lawyer. The other two accused, a man and a woman, are still wanted by the police.
According to the police, at least R$40,000 was paid to rescue Marcelinho, and part of this amount was recovered. During the kidnapping, the former player was forced to record a video where he said that Thais was married and they were having an affair, in an attempt by the criminals to outwit the police.
