Delight in the result you imagine you will get, and I worry when the new nuance does not perfectly cover the silver reflections. It is the mixed feelings that grip many women when they draw on mixing bases and pigments to achieve the ideal coverage of gray hair. Yet, helped by do-it-yourself dyes with increasingly sophisticated formulations, and faithful in guaranteeing the result promised on the package, by following the correct methods of application it is possible to obtain strands with a natural and homogeneous color.
The right wording
The available dyes are different, but to ensure perfect coverage, the most suitable formulation must bear the words “permanent color”, which uses ammonia or its derivatives to lift the cuticles covering the stem, dissolve the existing shades and allow the new pigments to penetrate and, therefore, fix themselves on the lengths. Semi-permanent dyes, coloring masks and henna should be discarded because they do not have covering properties.
Before purchasing, you must carefully select the version that best suits your needs. It is necessary to check that on the box it is clearly indicated that the product is “formulated to cover gray hair “. And then the effort must also be made to check that the pigments are of good quality and, therefore, suitable for guaranteeing a homogeneous and effectively covering result. Therefore, kits with an excessively low price should be discarded.
As for the nuance, it is better to choose it at least one tone lighter, because darker shades tend to make hair flat and unnatural and, with washes, reveal candid roots faster.
Tools and steps for a sure result
The challenge of covering gray hair can also be won by equipping yourself with the correct equipment. A professional bowl, made of rigid plastic and with high sides, allows you to mix cream and pigments more accurately than a recycled container which (inevitably) is never large or deep enough. Using the same principle, it is also advisable to get brushes, wide, narrow and with diagonal bristles: they guarantee the best application on notoriously difficult areas such as the roots on the forehead and the sides of the face because they require precision work.
Before mixing the color, the work area must be organized with all the necessary equipment. In addition to the contents of the kit, the bowl and the brush, you need 5 or more clothespins in case of flowing hair. The instructions must be clearly visible so that they can be consulted throughout the duration of the treatment. It seems superfluous, but this precaution is of great help!
After having carefully amalgamated the activating cream and the pigments, the lengths should be divided into 4 sections in the case of medium lengths, or in 6 or more if they are long and thick, stopping each lock with the clips. The coloring cream should be distributed on the regrowth with the brush (large on the surface of the head and small on the roots that frame the forehead and sides of the face). In order for the color to take well, it is important to proceed calmly, massaging the product very well. At the end of the work, they wait 20 minutes before spreading it also on the lengths, where it is left on for another quarter of an hour. Massaging the garment for another 3-5 minutes softens the product, thins it and facilitates the rinsing phase.
