Covid-19: Brazil has the highest rate of deaths per million among countries with the most deaths

Among the five countries that recorded the most deaths from Covid-19 in the world, Brazil is the one with the highest rate of deaths from the disease per million inhabitants.

The index was calculated by CNN based on data from Johns Hopkins University and the World Bank.

In the world, the country that recorded the highest number of deaths from the coronavirus was the United States, with 901,391. In second is Brazil, with 631,802. Then, in third, India, with 501,114, Russia with 327,310 and Mexico, with 308,829 deaths from the disease.

Among these, Brazil has a rate of 2,980 deaths per million people. The rate is higher than the 2,739 recorded by the United States, for example, despite the North American country being the country with the most deaths from Covid-19 in the world.

The third country with the highest rate of deaths per million inhabitants is Mexico, with 2,412. Next are Russia with 2,727 and India with 360.

When the index is calculated among the ten countries that concentrate the highest number of deaths from the coronavirus in the world, however, the highest rate of deaths per million inhabitants is recorded in Peru, with 6,457.

The country has recorded 206,646 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic, but it has 32 million inhabitants – much less than the 329 million in the United States and 212 million in Brazil.
