Covid-19: Brazil registers 221 deaths and more than 10,000 cases in 24 hours

Brazil registered 221 deaths and 10,627 cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. This Friday (3), the moving averages of deaths and infections were 206 and 8,826, respectively.

Data are from the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass). With the update, the country has a total of 615,400 deaths and 22,129,409 confirmed infections since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

Ômicron variant

The analysis carried out by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) ruled out the suspicion of a patient being infected by the Ômicron variant in the city of Rio de Janeiro. This was the first suspected case of the strain originating in South Africa in the state. Read more.

Increased flu syndromes

Fiocruz’s InfoGripe Bulletin released on Thursday (2) indicated that 13 of the 27 states had signs of growth in cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SRAG). Unlike the previous bulletin, the increase in cases was found in all age groups under 60 years. Read more.

booster dose

At least 17 million people, equivalent to 8% of the population, received the booster dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, according to data from the CNN Agency. With the exception of Belo Horizonte, in Minas Gerais, all capitals already provide doses at health posts. Read more.
