Covid-19 cases increase in the northern region of the country

Cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) associated with Covid-19 have been increasing in the northern region of the country, according to the latest Infogripe bulletin, from Fiocruz, released this Thursday (8).

Amazonas, Pará and Tocantins are showing an increase in the disease, in addition to Mato Grosso, in the Center-West. Acre, Rondônia, Goiás also show signs of growth in Covid-19 cases, but it is considered mild.

The biggest increase is among children and young adults. And there is a slowdown in growth among the elderly in Pará.

Acre and Rondônia also show signs of growth in SARS cases, but it is mild and still compatible with fluctuation. In the national aggregate, the sign of decline (in the last six weeks) and stability (in the last three weeks) remains.

The researcher from the Scientific Computing Program and coordinator of InfoGripe, Marcelo Gomes, talks about the importance of care during Carnival time in these states. “The recommendation, especially for those who are at risk – people of advanced age, people who have some immunosuppression – unfortunately, is not to participate in Carnival this year (…) so as not to run the risk of ending up exposing themselves and eventually developing a serious case. ”, says Gomes.

In the last eight weeks, incidence and mortality from Covid-19 has maintained the typical pattern of greatest impact among children up to two years of age and elderly people over 65 years of age.
