Covid-19: cities of São Paulo and Rio start vaccinating children aged 6 months to 3 years this Thursday (17)

Vaccination against Covid-19 enters a new stage. Vaccination of children between six months and three years of age begins in capitals like São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro this Thursday (17). See the list below.

O Ministry of Health advises that, at this time, immunizers should be offered to children with comorbidities in this age group.

The vaccination schedule will consist of three doses, with the second applied after an interval of four weeks (28 days) from the first; and the third, after eight weeks (56 days).

The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) approved the expansion of the use of Pfizer’s immunizer, in pediatric formulation, for babies and children up to three years old in September.

Distribution

The Ministry of Health began distributing 1 million doses of pediatric vaccines against Covid-19 on Thursday (10).

According to the folder, vaccines are intended for children with comorbidities.

The ministry’s recommendation is that the administration of vaccines against the coronavirus occur simultaneously with the other vaccines in the vaccination schedule or at any interval in the age group of 6 months of age or older.

Vaccination in the capitals

Among the capitals, the cities of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre and Florianópolis begin vaccination aged between six months and three years this Thursday (17).

The Federal District, Recife, Vitória, Teresina, Campo Grande, João Pessoa, Macapá have already started vaccination.

Porto Velho and Curitiba will start vaccinating this Friday (18). Salvador, Maceio and Manaus should also start the new vaccination cycle soon.

In three capitals, there is no start forecast: Fortaleza, Belém and Cuiabá.

Eight city halls of capitals did not respond to questions from the CNN : Belo Horizonte, Goiania, Are Luís, Natal, Aracaju, Boa Vista, Palmas and Rio Branco.
