Covid-19 positive test rate remains above 35%, says Abrafarma

The Brazilian Association of Pharmacy and Drugstore Chains (Abrafarma) – which brings together the 26 largest pharmacy chains in the country – announced, this Sunday (10), that the rate of positive tests for Covid-19 remains above 35%, considering data collected up to 3 July.

“The percentage of positives in the week until July 3 remained above 35% and the month of June ended with a number of cases 157% higher than in May. The period from June 27 to July 3 recorded 200,285 tests, of which 70,455 (35.18%) confirmed the diagnosis of coronavirus. It is the highest percentage in 21 weeks”, said Abrafarma.

When comparing with previous months, the survey evaluated that the month of June ended with 349,345 positive results, more than double compared to May and also higher than February.

“It is the 11th consecutive week of increase in the positive rates, which consolidates the importance of self-care, while demanding more intense measures to combat this growth”, says Sergio Mena Barreto, CEO of Abrafarma.

“We returned to the level of February after the feeling that the pandemic was under control from March onwards”, adds Barreto.

Considering the entire first half of 2022, there were 1,909,914 positive results against 641,399 in the second half of last year, according to Abrafarma.

Since the implementation of this service in April 2020, Brazilian pharmacies have promoted 18,786,558 rapid tests. The positive results totaled 4,375,501 (23%), against 14,411,057 negative (77%), according to the last update, released on July 10, 2022.
