Covid-19, schools towards a new closure

Schools as hotbeds of the epidemic. The Director of Prevention of the Ministry of Health, Gianni Rezza, he explained how “the incidence rate is growing in school age. We have a decrease in the average age of cases […] we are starting to see outbreaks in schools and this could be a consequence of the variants that infect children more, but without serious cases. The latter is an element to be taken into account », Rezza began, without excluding a new closure of the schools.

“When it comes to school closures it is always painful, but where there are outbreaks or the presence of variants it is clear that this painful decision must absolutely be considered. We have to be pragmatic ». What, this, which could also ignore the colors.

In Lombardy, Attilio Fontana has ordered the closure of schools in the province of Brescia, in eight communicates from Bergamo and in Soncino, in the province of Cremona. In the health districts of Ventimiglia and Sanremo, in Liguria, all schools have been closed, while in Emilia-Romagna, which has become “dark orange” for the metropolitan area of Bologna, all schools have been closed, with the exception of kindergartens and of the maternal. Campania, on the other hand, has closed everything, indiscriminately, the Marche has closed all high schools, Tuscany, at the provincial level, too. Molise has asked to return to the red zone.

The obligation to return to distance learning seems to be imperative, a necessary measure to contain the advancement of variants, the English one above all. “There are studies with different data on the use of one or two doses. The optimal strategy is to use the vaccine according to the data coming from clinical trials, that is with the double dose. The rationale of vaccinating with a single dose is to be able to cover a greater amount of the population in a short time. I would say that as long as there is a chance to have a double dose it is best. But taking different options into account in a pragmatic way is completely legitimate », Rezza’s words.
