Covid-19: the state of Rio has around 350,000 people with a delayed 2nd dose of the vaccine

Approximately 350,000 people in the state of Rio de Janeiro are late with the second dose of the vaccine against Covid-19, according to data from the Department of Health. Given this scenario, the folder launched a campaign to reinforce the need for immunization with two doses.

At present, more than 12 million (12,697,236) people have received the first shot of the vaccine. In relation to the second dose, 8.6 million (8,603,533) are immunized.

The municipality of Rio was the first state to authorize flexible use of masks in open places and without crowding. The measure considered the epidemiological scenario with low occupancy in hospitals and vaccination coverage above 65% of the general population. According to the Secretary of Health, Alexandre Chieppe, the decision was only taken because the vaccination generated positive results.

“This was an important step and proved that the vaccine is being extremely effective for us to fight the pandemic. To reach the current moment, of dispensing with the mask in open environments, we established a distribution logistics so that the doses would reach all 92 municipalities in the state within 48 hours”, said the secretary.

“As a result, we have one of the highest vaccination coverage rates. But we want to improve this brand and not return to previous levels. I reinforce the request for people to return to the health posts for the second dose or the booster dose”, added Chieppe.

Along the same lines, the governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro, stressed the importance of the population returning to health centers to receive the second dose of immunizing agents.

“Taking the second dose is essential for us to evolve in the fight against the coronavirus. Many people who could have taken the second dose have not yet returned to their posts. Everyone with the complete vaccination schedule will ensure that our state remains at low risk of virus transmission, which will allow us to bring greater flexibility to the stage we are at right now,” said the governor.

The campaign “Take the right measure, take the second dose” also calls the elderly to go to the units to receive the booster dose against the disease. Until this Monday night (1st), 1,013,318 people took the third dose of the vaccine.
