Covid-19: the use of masks in closed environments is again mandatory at USP

The use of masks as a preventive measure against Covid-19 will again be mandatory in closed environments at the University of São Paulo (USP) from next Wednesday (16). Face protection will be required in environments such as classrooms, auditoriums, museums, laboratories, libraries, public service places and administrative sectors.

According to USP, in outdoor environments, the use of a mask is recommended in crowded situations. The complete vaccine scheme against Covid-19 remains mandatory for teachers, technical and administrative servers and students.

The decision of the Rectory’s Health Advisory Committee, released on Friday (11), is based on the increase in the number of people with flu symptoms and positive diagnoses of infection by the coronavirus among the university community in recent weeks.

According to the statement, “it is recommended not to hold festive events, get-togethers, coffee breaks or any other similar event that encourages participants to remove the mask to eat food and, consequently, increase the possibility of transmission of the virus” .

The transmission rate of Covid-19 has risen again in Brazil. According to data from the InfoTracker platform, the transmission rate recorded this month is the highest since July 2022.

Experts point out that the introduction of a new, more transmissible subvariant of the coronavirus, BQ.1, may be behind the increase in the number of infections.
