Covid and gender gap at work: anonymous complaints for those who violate equal opportunities

End gender discrimination in the world of work. And do it quickly. Covid has hit women’s employment hard, increasing a gap that was already high in our country, lagging behind its peers.

And so the Minister of Labor Orlando and that of Technological Innovation Colao, speaking at the webinar “Target 62% – female employment as a national relaunch, women as a cross-cutting priority”, Have launched a flurry of proposals to smooth out the heavy Italian delay in the employment of women and in the distribution of burdens.

First of all, the creation of “mechanisms of anonymous platforms that denounce those who violate Article 27“Of the Code of Equal Opportunities which provides for the prohibition of”questions about personal life to women at the time of hiring“. Because, they say, “this is the moment when the company decides whether to hire a man or a woman. It is my intention to promote an action that affects this passage ».

They were joined by the Minister for Equal Opportunities, Elena Bonetti, who reiterated the importance of quickly implementing a strategy that “promote female empowerment and gender equality as an element not only of justice but of sustainable development ». Adding, however, how “essential” it is, in order to achieve the goal, to finally approve essential levels of performance that allow “measuring” welfare performance.

In agreement with Bonetti, the Minister for the South, Mara Carfagna, for which “female employment is a priority for the relaunch of the country, especially in the South where one in three women works”. But, he adds, “to create jobs and to free up women’s time, which bear the full weight of family care, we must focus on social infrastructures: more nurseries, full-time in schools, an efficient network of assistance for the elderly and people with disabilities».

On the other hand, the employment figures are clear: with the pandemic it was precisely women who suffered the most from the shock. Element that Orlando himself recalled: “The precariousness of work was paid more by women, therefore we must also see what reforms we will make even without reference to the Recovery ».
