As the Biden administration continues to fight the Ômicron variant and encourage vaccination, the latest US data shows that there is a downward trend in Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations.
Vaccination novelties may also soon expand the eligible audience for immunizers. The White House said it is ready to “go full steam ahead” to vaccinate children ages six months to five years old once the Pfizer/BioNTech immunizer receives authorization for emergency use in this group.
Here are some of the latest data on Covid-19 in the United States:
- The average number of new Covid cases in the US is 356,658, according to Johns Hopkins University;
- Cases have dropped by 38% since last week. They are trending down in every state except Alabama;
- The average daily death rate in the US is 2,441, according to Johns Hopkins. It is 7% higher than a week ago, but has been stable in recent days. The US is expected to exceed the total of 900,000 deaths from Covid-19 on Friday night (4) or Saturday;
- There are 122,627 people currently hospitalized with Covid-19 in the US. There was a 16% drop from last week, and new admissions are down from the previous week as well — a promising sign that the decline is likely to continue, according to the Department of Health and Human Services.
- More than a quarter (26.8%) of the total US population is fully vaccinated and has received a booster dose, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. About 64% received at least the first two doses.
