He just announced it the managing director and general manager of Ferrovie dello Stato Gianfranco Battisti: “We will implement this solution especially on tourist destinations for the summer,” said Battisti, making it clear right away that cities of art such as Venice and Florence, among the most affected by the lack of tourists due to the pandemic, are the first on the list to extend the initiative.
The news was announced at Rome Termini, where it has just been inaugurated the first Italian railway hub dedicated to vaccinations: a structure – created thanks to the collaboration between the Lazio Region, the Italian Red Cross and the FS Italiane Group – equipped with 21 vaccination stations, two of which are dedicated to people with disabilities where, at full capacity, it will be possible to 1,500 vaccinations per day.
On the same occasion, the FS Italiane Group showed the Health Train: a convoy with carriages equipped with specific medical equipment, including those necessary for intensive care. The train, which in 8 carriages can accommodate up to 21 patients and 45 health workers, will be able to serve comand emergency solution in the event that – as is often the case due to the pandemic – hospitals need additional beds, and it will also be used as needed to transport patients from one area of Italy to another or abroad. It was born from the collaboration between the FS Italiane Group, the Civil Protection Department and the Regional Emergency Emergency Agency of Lombardy (AREU) and, as Gianfranco Battisti himself explained “There is no other example like this”.
