Covid represents 71.2% of cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome in Brazil

The new edition of the InfoGripe bulletin, from the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), released this Tuesday (21), points out that cases of Covid-19 already correspond to 71.2% of the occurrences of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in the country. Brazil in the last four weeks.

According to Fiocruz, the predominance of Covid cases is in the adult population. In young children (0 to 4 years old) there was a predominance of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), followed by Sars-CoV-2 (Covid-19), rhinovirus and metapneumovirus. In the other age groups, Sars-CoV-2 is predominant among cases with laboratory identification.

In the last four epidemiological weeks, the prevalence among cases with a positive result for respiratory viruses was 3.5% Influenza A, 0.3% Influenza B, 12.7% respiratory syncytial virus, and 71.2% for Covid-19. . Among the deaths, the presence of these same viruses among the positives was 2.6% Influenza A, 0.0% Influenza B, 2.3% respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and 91.9% Covid-19.

Among the 27 Brazilian states, 17 show signs of long-term growth trend (last six weeks) until week 23: Acre, Alagoas, Amazonas, Ceará, Distrito Federal, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, Pará, Paraíba, Paraná, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul, Rio de Janeiro, Rondônia, Santa Catarina and São Paulo. The others show signs of stability or decline in the long-term trend. In Rio Grande do Sul, in particular, there is also an increase in positive cases for influenza in different age groups.
