After not seeing each other for several months, it was certainly an extremely emotional encounter. Mary can now be close to Gordon in her new room. ‘ This message and the accompanying video on Facebook have gone viral. The protagonists are two elderly people who met again after eight months due to Covid.

Their embrace was taken up and posted on social media by those who work in the retirement home Baily House Care Home di Mansfield, where the woman was already a guest.

The couple had last seen each other in September last when her husband was transferred to a nursing home. She hadn’t been able to visit him. When he left the nursing home in the rsa that hosted them both there was no place for him. Only now has a room been vacated and there has been reunification. “It was wonderful! It is so good to see him again. Since we separated I have cried a lot, now we can finally be together, ”said Mary.

Contact and hugs are among the things that have been most missed in the months of the pandemic. The World Press Photo, the most important photojournalism contest awarded one in its 2021 edition. The “World Press Photo of the year” went to the Danish photographer Mads Nissen for the photo taken by Nissena São Paulo showing an elderly patient with Covid-19 receive her first hug after five months, thanks to the “embrace tent”.
