Seven million Italians with the third dose done by 2021 and opening up to new age groups. Vaccination is the main way, but not the only one. There are now 100,000 injections a day. To increase the numbers and get those under 60 years of age vaccinated with the third dose, regional hubs are expected to reopen. It is one of the measures coming to avert a Christmas like last year with restrictions on just 15 holidays.
The government is working on maintenance measures that keep the numbers of infections under control as they have been so far. The situation has improved a lot compared to the same period a year ago when red and orange areas returned. On 22 October 2020 there were 9,694 people hospitalized and there were 34 thousand at the end of November. The dead were 425 on 7 November 2020, 26 on 7 November 2021.
Italy is still all bianca, but infections and hospitalizations are on the rise and there are regions at risk of yellow zone because the color system remains. Employment in intensive care at the national level is 4% and that in the medical area is 6%. The limit thresholds set are 10% and 15% respectively. There are regions that are touching them.
To keep the data under control, in addition to vaccinations (third dose enlargement, not before mid-December for children from 5 years old), there is the extension of the Green pass, which also serves for work, until the summer and the probable extension of state of emergency until 31 March which should arrive in mid-December with an amendment in the texts under discussion in Parliament. In some cities the number of places available in the medical area and in intensive care is increasing. It remains the obligation of masks indoors and outdoors in case of gatherings.
The “pandemic of the unvaccinated” which is a reality in the rest of Europe also exists in Italy. To stop it, therefore, more vaccinations are needed in all age groups the first doses for the youngest and the third dose for the elderly and frail. The hope is that at least 50% of children from 5 years of age seen one in 4 infected are under the age of twenty. Commissioner Figliuolo asked to “guarantee the additional possibility of accessing vaccination directly at vaccination hubs without reservation” and invited general practitioners to make a direct call. There is no lockdown hypothesis for non-immunized people in Italy as in Austria.
