Irregular surface, tendency to flake and break are nail blemishes which are easy to remedy. It serves a simple strategy to put into practice immediately when these frailties occur, which includes both cosmetic treatments and small changes in lifestyle, favoring the intake of certain foods that provide elements capable of increasing strength and endurance. Here are the key elements of a cure in & out which restores its well-being and beauty.
The friendly ingredients of the nails
The nail is composed almost exclusively of keratin (a structural protein made up of amino acid chains), minerals, lipid components and vitamins. Any imbalance of these components alters their integrity. Strengthening enamels are of great help in putting it back on track because they generally provide moisturizing and nourishing substances, such as hyaluronic acid and argan oil for example, which improve its appearance, plus structural agents that strengthen it. Consistent and accurate application is a key step to obtain appreciable results, but nutrition also plays a key role. Here, then, are the main ingredients included in the targeted cosmetic specialties and the foods that contain them.
- Biotin. It is a B complex vitamin and is useful for promoting healthy cell growth because it promotes the metabolism of amino acids which, in turn, create proteins essential for nail growth, namely keratin. This substance is present in egg yolk, dairy products, yeast, salmon, avocado, sweet potato, nuts, seeds, and even cauliflower.
- Minerals. Silicon, calcium, magnesium, for example, are part of this group of substances, precious for the whole organism, and are essential for improving the protein synthesis responsible for growth. Whole wheat, vegetables, almonds, but also cashews and peanuts are good sources of these molecules.
- Proteins. They are the “building blocks” of the nails, made up of keratin. Consuming them through the diet is essential for increasing their production. Meat, poultry, fish, eggs and dairy products are rich in it, as well as legumes, such as beans, and whole grains.
Good habits that strengthen nails
Involved in the normal aging processes that affect the body, the nails also show the signs of age with a weakened appearance, thinness, tendency to break, streaked surface. Insesthetisms that they can be a window on possible problems of the organism (and in this case only a doctor can determine if it is a manifestation linked to hormonal imbalances, infections or other) or simply a reflection of bad habits that compromise their integrity. The main enemies of the nails are essentially two:
- The immersion continues in the water it drains the hydrolipidic reserves favoring the manifestation of more or less evident nail fragility; in these cases the use of latex gloves is mandatory as well as the frequent application of moisturizing and nourishing lotions and creams;
- frequent manicures (with traditional or semi-permanent lacquers) and the removal of the enamel using acetone-based solvents can weaken, and favor the tendency to break, increasing the vulnerability to injuries. Although the new formulations are increasingly delicate and respectful of the nail structure, it is always advisable to alternate these treatments with one or two weeks of oxygenating “rest”, which allow the surface to regain its own balance.
