A collision between a trailer and a van left four people dead and eight injured, on Friday afternoon (29), at kilometer 324 of the BR-158 highway, near the city of Santana do Livramento, in Rio Grande do Sul. The causes of the accident are being investigated.
According to the Rio Grande do Sul Military Fire Department (CBMRS), the eight victims were removed from the wreckage and taken to the hospital. Three men and a woman who were in the van died.
The Federal Highway Police (PRF) said that the injured, six who were in the van and two in the truck, were rescued by ambulances from Samu, the Military Fire Department, City Hall and the company Movilcor and taken to Santa Casa in Santana do Livramento.
The CBMRS also reported that the truck was traveling in the direction of Rosário do Sul – Santana do Livramento and was destined for Uruguaiana. The van, which was coming in the opposite direction, was leaving a day of shopping in the Uruguayan city of Rivera and was heading towards the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre.
The incident was attended to by ten military firefighters from the Santana do Livramento Platoon, three from the Dom Pedrito Platoon and one from the Bagé Platoon, in addition to support from the Federal Highway Police (PRF), SAMU, the Municipal Health Department (SMS) and private companies in the municipal health sector.
The causes of the accident are being investigated by the Civil Police, Federal Highway Police and the General Institute of Forensics. The PRF reported that the two people who were in the trailer and the ten in the van were duly identified.
