The publication of a “photograph” of Pope Francis in a stylish coat has confused social media users. Many came to believe, at first, that the pontiff had actually worn the fashion item, or that he was singing at a concert.
These were some of the montages – made by artificial intelligence – that went viral over the weekend. In the images, you can see that the pope appears in different contexts that were manipulated.
A CNN heard this Sunday (26) from Arthur Igreja, specialist in Technology and Innovation, who spoke about artificial intelligence, risks and how to avoid falling into fake news.
According to Igreja, the images are really impressive, especially the one that went viral and ended up fooling many people. “This was all just a joke. The photos were posted on a forum and then it went viral via Twitter and other social media,” she said.
Igreja explained that taking this type of photo is now very easy. He highlighted the launch of ChatGPT – a program that creates texts and other tasks. “Since last year there has been a generation of tools in which people can very easily generate texts, images and videos of thousands of versions”, he points out.
The expert emphasized that if the person just typed “Pope Francisco rapper style” or “NBA player”, for example, into the computer, this image would be generated without the user having to do anything.
