Crete: The British man accused of raping her is back with his daughter – “I told them he was innocent”

The Brit who was accused of raping his daughter in Crete, while they were on vacation, he reunited with her. Philip Forsythe, 62, was released from prison yesterday after being held for about a month after a DNA test showed he was not the one who carried out the attack, according to the Daily Mail.

After reuniting with his daughter Tammi, the 62-year-old told MailOnline: “The first thing I said to her was: I love you, I’m sorry for what happened and I’ll never let anyone hurt you like that again.” “The whole experience was hell, the worst I’ve ever been through and it drove me crazy.”

“I told them it was all innocent, just a father trying to put his drunken daughter to bed. The cops started yelling at me and saying I’m a rapist. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I love my daughter so much, I am so protective of her and I could never have imagined that I would be accused of something so heinous. It’s one of the worst things a father can hear,” the 62-year-old told Mail Online.

“I want everyone to see the material and look at it carefully. How can you to arrest a man for rape, relying only on this? It’s ridiculous,” added the 62-year-old father, who said that after he and his daughter left the bar, they continued to fight. As he said, he walked away in a rage, however, he intended to return to her, but he was lost. “A part of me still blames me for what happened. I shouldn’t have left her alone, but I had been drinking too and passed out. In the end I went back to the hotel and a few hours later, my daughter came back and told me that she had been raped. At first, I thought she said this to make me feel bad because she was still mad at me, but after a while, we talked about what happened and I realized it was true. I told her to report it to the Police and so we went to the police station together. We both gave statements but I didn’t realize at the time that I would end up being accused. It was a complete shock to me when two days later, they said that I was the rapist and that my daughter had told them that, which was a complete lie,” she said.

As he also noted, after initially being held in a police station, he was finally transferred to the Tripoli prison, where he was in a cell with 26 other prisoners. Regarding when he was told he was free again, he said a corrections officer told him he was free and to pack.

“When I heard these words, I jumped for joy. The rest of the prisoners started clapping and cheering since they knew I was innocent! I greeted them all with a handshake and then disappeared as quickly as possible. My fellow inmates were great company and looked after me. Only one of them spoke English and acted as an interpreter,” said the 62-year-old, who added that he faced the worst conditions in a detention center in mainland Greece, before being transferred to Tripoli prisons.

In his interview he concluded by saying: “I never want to come to Greece again. There are no words to describe the horror that my daughter and I experienced. We just want Justice to be served and to go back to our normal lives.”
