CREW-10: bad weather advances NASA mission that will seek astronauts in space

NASA announced on Thursday (13) the postponement of the Crew-10 mission, which will now be launched on Friday (14), at 20:03 (Brasília time). The ship Crew Dragon will take four astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS ) And surrendering the two who departed from Earth with Starliner, Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, and months later they could not yet return.

The reason released by the US space agency was bad weather, as the forecast was strong winds and precipitation in Crew Dragon’s flight trajectory. The launch, which was scheduled for the night of Thursday (13) had already been postponed due to a problem a hydraulic system of Falcon 9, a rocket that will boost the mission.

The Crew Dragon spacecraft would take the astronauts of the American agency Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers – the commander and the pilot, respectively -, JAXA (Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency) Takuya Oishi, and Roscos (Russian space agency) Kirill Peskov for a stay of about four months – with a spring forecast in the spring of the spring of 2025.

Upon the arrival of the new crew and a transitional period, four ISS residents will return to Earth aboard another Dragon crew spacecraft, ending the Crew-9 mission. Among them, Nick Hague, Aleksandr Gorbunov and Starliner Williams and Wilmore astronauts.

Astronauts were “stuck in space” for months

Williams and Wilmore have been at the International Space Station since last June. Piloting the manned inaugural mission of Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft, the duo went through a turbulent journey there.

Astronauts were initially scheduled to spend about a week in the orbital laboratory.

After Starliner arrived at the space station, NASA and Boeing worked for weeks to better understand problems – including helium leaks and propulsion problems – which affected the first stage of the test flight.

NASA officers finally decided that it was very risky to send the Starliner back to Earth with the crew. Williams and Wilmore have become official members of the space station team while awaiting their return home with the other members of the Spacex Crew-9 mission.
