Crimes involving Pix have skyrocketed in the state of São Paulo. In the first quarter of 2022 alone, 1,271 reports of unauthorized transfers were made on the platform. In the same period of 2021, there were 387 such occurrences, an increase of 228.4%. The data were captured through the Law of Access to Information by the production of the CNN .
This situation is accompanied by an increase in cell phone robberies and thefts in the state of São Paulo in January and February of this year, which rose by 6%, with 60,828 occurrences.
experts consulted by CNN explain that to protect yourself from crimes with the tool, it is recommended to reduce the time to lock the cell phone screen, activate double authentication in apps like WhatsApp and using “coffin” applications, which are those capable of protecting others with passwords.
Launched in November 2020, Pix fell in favor with the Brazilian, having set yet another usage record earlier this month. On May 6, 73.198 million operations were performed with the tool. In March, the number of monthly transactions reached 1.6 billion.
From the launch of Pix until March 2022, 4,492 incidents of crimes were recorded with the platform in the state of São Paulo after cell phone robberies and thefts.
