The Rio Grande do Sul police carried out this Tuesday (3) an operation against a criminal organization responsible for drug trafficking, possession of firearms, homicides, slanderous reporting and money laundering. In total, 14 people were arrested.
According to the Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (Gaeco), the faction hindered the work of the police, especially in the fight against drug trafficking.
In order to hinder the investigations, they falsely denounced military police officers who worked to combat organized crime in the region of Ronda Alta (RS), leading to disciplinary investigations. The group made false reports of crimes and disciplinary infractions against the police officers who were repressing criminals.
Investigations revealed that criminals, in addition to making complaints, also made threats against security agents and their families, using violence as a way of intimidating. The population in general was also the target of threats, in the cities where the faction operated.
The group was linked to one of the largest criminal organizations in Rio Grande do Sul, commanded from within prisons and divided into several groups. One of the leaders was responsible for managing several commercial establishments used as drug sales points.
One of the groups was responsible for financial transactions, money laundering and hiding assets. According to prosecutor Manoel Antunes, one of the practices is the fragmented movement of values. In this way, after passing through several individuals or legal entities, the money reaches the top of the faction.
In total, 32 people were investigated. The court also authorized the blocking of 25 bank accounts, including orange accounts. One of these accounts, in just four months between 2022 and 2023, generated R$1.9 million.
