Four men were arrested on suspicion of being part of a criminal group investigated for robberies and crystal shipments. The arrests took place in the city of Curvelo, in the Central region of Minas Gerais, during an operation launched by the Civil Police of Minas Gerais (PCMG).
In addition to the arrests, five search and seizure warrants were served. The agents seized approximately ten tons of stolen crystals, R$38,000 in cash and four vehicles used to commit the crimes from the suspects.
According to the police, the investigation began in January of this year, when a significant amount of money was stolen from a residence in the city of Curvelo. The police managed to identify some of the members of the criminal organization, suspected of having committed another robbery on May 1st, against a company that sells crystals in the region. Four armed individuals entered the establishment and, after subduing the employee, stole a large amount of the material.
On Monday (12), the theft and robbery investigation team in Curvelo obtained information that the criminal group was transporting part of a load of crystals stolen last Thursday (8).
According to the police, on that day, a truck carrying approximately 27 tons of the product was approached by another truck, on BR-135, and, after the driver was subdued and placed in the trunk of another vehicle, the suspects stole the load.
The truck was located in a rural area on the banks of the BR-040 the following day (9), and the driver was released by the group hours after the criminal act.
Based on the information obtained, the civil police went to the address where the stolen crystal cargo was being transported and identified a vehicle that had been used in robberies in the region.
After the approach, two suspects, targets of the investigation and with arrest warrants issued by the Court, were arrested. Another suspect, who was in the vehicle, was also detained. Inside the car, three bags with crystals and a power generator were found.
According to police, investigators found seven other bags containing crystals at another address. The victim of the robbery that occurred on the 8th went to the address and recognized the material that had been stolen. A fourth suspect was located and arrested at home.
During the search, one of the suspects indicated the location where part of the crystal cargo stolen from the truck intercepted on BR-135 was hidden. At the indicated address, the team found around 10 tons of crystals. All of the seized material was recognized by the victim.
According to the police, investigations are ongoing. The suspects were sent to the prison system and are at the disposal of the Justice Department.
