Criminal lawyer Silvio Vieira da Silva, 54, was shot dead on the afternoon of Monday (5) in the Genibaú neighborhood, in Fortaleza in Ceará. He was a sectional advisor to the Brazilian Bar Association Ceará (OAB-CE) and was recognized in cases of great repercussion in the state.
According to the investigations, the lawyer would have left home after receiving a series of insistent calls about a cash value he allegedly would receive. The person who made the contacts did not make the promised transfer and advised the payment to be withdrawn in person.
The police work with the hypothesis that the lawyer was an ambush .
Silvio drove when he was surprised by armed men who shot several times. He still tried to escape, but could not resist his injuries.
The lawyer was known for defending military police in the trial of Curió’s slaughter, who left 11 dead in 2015, and also acted in defense of a teacher accused of being the mastermind of his wife’s own murder.
The Ceará Sectional Brazilian Bar Association decreed three days of official mourning. “It is a moment of immense dismay for all law. I decreed mourning three days in memory of colleague and friend Silvio. All law and OAB are mourning,” said OAB-CE President Christiane Leitão. She also asked the authorities to completely commit to investigations.
In a statement, the Ceará Secretariat of Public Security and Social Defense (SSPDS) reported that two men were arrested by the Ceará Military Police (PMCE), suspected of involvement in the murder.
Police seized four revolvers, about 70 ammunition, drugs, communicating radios and money. The 20- to 24 -year -old suspects already had police tickets and were charged with willful murder, drug trafficking and illegal possession of a weapon. The case is still under investigation.
