A criminal police officer was arrested this Tuesday morning (1), after being sentenced to five years in prison for the crime of torture committed in 2019. The arrest was carried out in MossorĂ³, a city about 280 kilometers from the capital Natal (RN).
According to the Rio Grande do Norte Penitentiary Administration Secretariat (SEAP-RN), the arrest took place around 6:30 in the morning, at the house of the server, identified as Francisco Giovanni de Souza Gonçalves, aged 38.
In a note, the secretariat stated that Francisco is being held in custody in the State Penitentiary System and is following the court order.
SEAP-RN highlights that the crime, which occurred in 2019, took place at the Dr. MĂ¡rio NegĂ³cio State Agricultural Penitentiary. In the first instance of the process, the server was acquitted. However, the state Public Prosecutor’s Office appealed the decision and, in the second instance, Francisco was convicted and will serve his sentence in a closed regime.
Upon conviction, the employee was transferred to the CearĂ¡ Mirim Public Prison, located approximately 370 kilometers from the state’s prison unit where police officers are generally held.
