An attempted robbery last Sunday night (19) ended with one suspect dead and another shot, as well as a tourist injured in the head. According to information, the crime took place on the sidewalk of Avenida Lúcio Costa, near Pepê beach, in Barra da Tijuca.
According to the Civil Police, two suspects were on a motorcycle and tried to rob a couple who were dining outside a popular restaurant in the region. A few meters away, a civilian police officer in plain clothes noticed the suspicious movement and reacted to the robbers’ criminal approach.
According to the police officer’s initial statement, there was an attempt to prevent the crime without using a weapon, but one of the robbers ended up pulling out a pistol at the officer, who fired. One of the suspects died before help arrived. The other was taken alive to Lourenço Jorge Municipal Hospital. His health status has not yet been reported.
During the confusion, Paraguayan tourist Matias Arias, 29, ran and collided with a sign, suffering a cut to his head. He was also taken to Lourenço Jorge and is under observation. The case is investigated by the Capital Homicide Police Station.
