On the night of this Sunday (17), criminals carried out an attempt to assault the value carrier Protege (formerly Proforte), in the city of Guarapuava, in the interior of Paraná. The municipality is in the west of the state, 250 km from the capital Curitiba.
In addition to the attack on the transport company, the armed men also set fire to trucks on the highway that gives access to the city and close to the 16th Military Police Battalion, which was hit by several shots.
According to the government of Paraná, two police officers were injured – one in the leg and the other in the head. Both are not at risk of death. There is still no information about the civilians injured during the criminal action.
São Vicente Hospital reported that the two injured police officers were admitted to the health unit.
The government also reported that the criminals fled towards the interior of the state.
Justice Minister Anderson Torres posted on Twitter that he had sent reinforcements from the Federal Police and the Federal Highway Police to the city of Guarapuava. “We are coordinating with the local government to provide all necessary support,” he wrote.

According to the Paraná Fire Department, at least four trucks were set on fire in the action. Two of them on the BR-277 highway, in an attempt to block access to the city, while the other two close to the state’s 16th Military Police Battalion.
According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF) of Paraná, traffic on the highway between km 353 and km 330 was banned. “Occurrence linked to attacks by criminals in Guarapuava started 04/17/22 at 22:30 against several public and private institutions”, informs the PRF.
At 8:46 am this Monday (18), the PRF reported on Twitter that there are no more road blocks in the Guarapuava region, and traffic is flowing normally.
The Ponta Grossa Highway Police reported that they were called to assist in the incident.
THE CNN contacted the Protege group. In a statement, the company states that “the criminal action against the Operational Base in Guarapuava (PR) was not successful in accessing the company’s safe”.
