Croatian health authorities announced on Thursday that 9,058 cases of SARS-CoV-2 had been confirmed in the past 24 hours, an unprecedented number in the Balkan country.
The previous record was set just one day earlier, the day before yesterday Wednesday, and was 8,587 infections. In total, 745,544 cases of the virus have been reported.
During the same period, 33 patients were killed due to complications of COVID-19, with the national toll of the pandemic reaching 12,764 in the country of approximately 4 million inhabitants.
The low rate of immunization contributes to the new escalation of the health crisis. Until yesterday, 55.82% of the population had been vaccinated against COVID-19, a much lower percentage than those of other European Union member states.
