Croatia will supply Ukraine with tanks with help from Germany

Croatia is to supply Ukraine’s armed forces with thirty tanks and an equal number of Cold War-era armored fighting vehicles with the help of Germany, under a deal signed in Berlin on Monday. The first of these tanks and TOMAs “will be delivered to Ukraine within the year”, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced after signing the deal with his Croatian counterpart Ivan Anusic. The deal includes spare parts and ammunition. These tanks and TOMAs were produced in the years of the former Yugoslavia, but according to Zagreb they are in good condition. Berlin will offer financial support to its NATO ally Zagreb for the purchase of state-of-the-art German-made Leopard 2A8 main battle tanks. Although Croatia’s conservative government under Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic says it is willing to support Ukraine by supplying it with weapons to defend itself against Russia, Social Democrat President Zoran Milanovic opposes it.
