Cruise ships banned in Venice from August 1 – “Historic Day”

Signed today Tuesday (13/7) the legislative decree that from August 1 prohibits cruise ships from reaching the city of Venice. Their passengers will no longer disembark near Agios Markos square but in the commercial port of Marghera, reports APE-MPE.

“This is a historic day, after years of waiting around the world. A decision that Unesco was waiting for, as well as all those who came to Venice and were stunned by the dimensions of these ships, which passed through the most fragile and most beautiful part of the world “, stressed the Italian Minister of Culture Dario Francescini.

The Italian minister added that financial support will be paid to companies and enterprises that may be damaged by the removal of large ships from Venice.

“This is a milestone date, with the aim of protecting the serenity of the Serenity,” said Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi.
