Crypto Industry Defenders Protest Ban on Placing NFT Games on Steam

A non-profit organization of lawyers, together with the developer of computer games Valve, insists on lifting the ban on the placement of games using NFT and cryptocurrencies on the Steam platform.

In October, the popular PC game distribution platform Steam updated its terms of use, banning any games using NFTs, cryptocurrencies, and other blockchain-based technologies. In this regard, the non-profit organization of lawyers “Fight for the Future”, which protects the digital rights of citizens, including in the field of cryptocurrencies, together with the developer of computer games Valve did an open letter to Steam insisting that the ban be lifted.

“Your platform is the largest market for video games, but what will happen to it if now you refuse to host games on the blockchain using NFT and cryptocurrencies? Valve’s GameFi is a fast-growing and exciting category of games that should be in the Steam ecosystem. Please consider changing your position on this issue and allow NFT games to be hosted on the Steam platform, ”the letter says.

According to Fight for the Future lawyer Joe Thornton, the move aims to at least initiate negotiations between Valve and Steam. The main goal is to convince Steam to lift the ban on blockchain-based games. The Steam platform has not yet commented on the open letter.

The popularity of Steam is very high among the developers of computer games, but the negative policy regarding games on the blockchain may give an advantage to its competitor – the Epic Games Store, which continues to place such products on its site. According to a recent study by BGA, almost 50% of cryptocurrency wallets are already used in blockchain games.
