Cryptocurrency market capitalization has surpassed the $ 3 trillion mark for the first time, according to data from CoinGecko. The portal takes into account the indicators of 10 433 digital assets, the aggregate valuation of which is now $ 3.012 trillion, an increase of 4.1% per day.

Bitcoin has risen sharply tonight and is trading above $ 66,000 at time of publication, one and a half percent from an all-time high set 19 days ago. The latest leap comes alongside Digital Currency Group and Grayscale founder Barry Silbert’s announcement that “an important week” lies ahead.

What exactly Silbert meant is still unknown. Last week, it was reported that Digital Currency Group is selling shares to investors such as SoftBank and Google at an estimate of over $ 10 billion. Prior to that, Digital Currency Group’s valuation remained a mystery, as the company had only raised $ 25 million in capital since its founding six years ago. … Also, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) confirmed the start of consideration of an application to transform the world’s largest bitcoin fund, managed by Grayscale, into an ETF.

At the previous peak in mid-May, the cryptocurrency market capitalization rose to $ 2.6 trillion, after which it decreased more than half by mid-July.

While bitcoin is nearing highs, some other cryptocurrencies are updating them. So, Ethereum today for the first time rose in price to $ 4,766, Avalanche (AVAX) reached $ 93, and Terra (LUNA) – $ 52. Solana (SOL) set a new record over the weekend, and Binance Coin (BNB) is now trading around $ 650, within 5% of its mid-May high. As a result of the continued growth of altcoins, the bitcoin dominance index dropped to 41%.
