Cryptocurrency skeptic David Hansson recognized the effectiveness and benefits of bitcoin

The founder of Ruby On Rails, David Hansson, who was skeptical about cryptocurrencies, after the actions of the Canadian authorities against the “Convoy of Freedom”, recognized the global benefits of cryptocurrencies.

David Hansson stated on his blog that his negative stance towards the cryptocurrency industry was wrong. His opinion has changed after the recent sanctions of the Canadian authorities against the protest group “Convoy of Freedom”. Hansson now sees effective use cases for cryptocurrencies – even in “Western democracies.”

“I was wrong and I was wrong, we need cryptocurrency,” he stated, adding that he still sees many challenges in accepting digital assets.

Hansson noted that he had previously perceived cryptocurrency only as a way to maintain independence from banks in developing countries such as Venezuela, or in “overly authoritarian” countries such as China or Iran. He believed that “stable Western democracies” ruled by the “rule of law” had little need for blockchain.

However, Hansson has now said that his move away from cryptocurrencies was “too hasty.” He only saw the flaws of bitcoin instead of appreciating the freedom of transactions that it provides.

Recall that earlier the Canadian authorities blocked the funds raised to support the “Freedom Convoy”. In response, the protesters announced the creation of their own Freedom Convoy token. In turn, the police called on cryptocurrency exchanges to block the accounts of initiative organizations supporting the Freedom Convoy.

Last week, Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin drew attention to the benefits of cryptocurrencies in such situations amid the blocking of bank accounts of protesters in Canada.
