Cryptocurrencies washed off their early potential and turned into a speculation tool, finding themselves captive from several centralized platforms. This conclusion was made by the famous cryptograph and one of the co -authors of the RSA algorithm Adi Shamir, writes The Register.
At the RSA Conference event in San Francisco, a 72-year-old programmer noted that Satoshi Nakamoto Bitcoin was “very elevated”. However, the promise to build a system of decentralized digital exchange of money without government and financial institutions was not fulfilled, said Shamir.
The interlocutor of Shamir in a panel discussion was Eda Felten – an honorary professor of computer science of Princeton University and one of the developers of Arbitrum. He compared the crypto industry with the early stage of the development of the Internet and noted that technology can be used differently.
Shamir agreed that the blockchain technology itself is reliable and could have “excellent applications”. In his opinion, the problem is to use it in cryptocurrencies. The situation in which anonymous digital assets move around the world without obstacles and responsibility – “not ideal”.
The scientist added that it was cryptocurrencies that led to the development of harmful programs:
In April, the founder of Binance, Chanpen Zhao, called on the industry to create Jean agents with tokens who would show “real applicability”, and called most of the existing examples “useless”.
